Ha
I thought I was the only one still up.

Man... I'm gonna have to make the tough decision on whether to stay home and watch the game, or go to physics. What to do, what to do...

by oompagooba on Apr 2, 2007 5:15 AM PDT   0 recs

Bring it on
Man this six months has dragged. Have been waiting for tonight for too long, it had better not disappoint!

Will be watching up in the wee small hours - if you're heading down there, give them a yell of encouragement from me.

Gowon the M's!

MarkE's M's games:
25/4/06 - M's 0 Tigers 2
14/4/07 - M's v Rangers
17/4/07 - M's v Twins

P1 W0 L1 (.000)

by MarkE on Apr 2, 2007 5:33 AM PDT   0 recs

It's here!
Finally! Cmon Felix, just give me hope about this team for one series, hell one day.

by phil333 on Apr 2, 2007 5:46 AM PDT   0 recs

Call it a feeling
I'm excited for this series. Even though I'm on the other side of the country, I can't wait to watch opening day at the Safe, just like I have tickets behind the visiting team dugout to heckle them all game.

LETS GO MARINERS!

by Babar on Apr 2, 2007 5:47 AM PDT   0 recs

Hmmm.
Mike Hargrove would call that feeling "Gas"...
Iceberg, right ahead!

by PositivePaul on Apr 2, 2007 7:36 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh man
I'm absolutely stoked for this season to begin.

My first year with MLB.tv, so we'll see how that goes. As long as I get to see us play, I'm ecstatic.

by PShwa on Apr 2, 2007 6:17 AM PDT   0 recs

Time for me to start breaking out
The chocolate covered coffee beans and switch over to PST for a few weeks.

I've missed game threads.

by Graham on Apr 2, 2007 6:35 AM PDT   0 recs

Looking down the lineups
gives me a great deal of hope. There's not a single batter I'd want to trade for the A's equivalent. Maybe, just maybe, Id take chavez over sexson. And at least today our starter should be better.

Can't we clone Felix? what was that nutball cult that claimed to have cloned humans?

by Mere Tantalisers on Apr 2, 2007 6:37 AM PDT   0 recs

We have the best lineup in the West
Really. It's a little bizarre to think about, but it's true. When your worst hitters are Lopez, Betancourt, and Vidro, you're not doing too badly.

by Graham on Apr 2, 2007 7:12 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i suss you're right.
Rangers always get pegged as the offensive powerhouse in the west, but you oculd put LAA into ameriquest and have them hit like the yankees, I suppose.
Who, by the way, have the most unlikely opening day starter in the majors outside of Gil Meche. Maybe even more unlikely considering the teams.

by Mere Tantalisers on Apr 2, 2007 7:35 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd probably take Piazza over Vidro
but thats just personal preference.  When it comes down to it, they are an ex-catcher and and ex-2B who are now DH.  Doesn't this seem wrong...

by Edgar for Pres on Apr 2, 2007 7:38 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not talking about positions
in those terms, I would also take crosby over betancourt and yes, Piazza over Vidro. I'm talking about 1-9 in the lineup. And I would rather have Ibanez than Piazza.

by Mere Tantalisers on Apr 2, 2007 8:18 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Swisher
I would take Swisher.

by Peen on Apr 2, 2007 7:49 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

OK yeah
but its not exactly cut and dry. If Guillen has the season he had with the angels, then its a toss up. But you're right.

by Mere Tantalisers on Apr 2, 2007 8:19 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes
Shop smart......Shop s-mart...... YOU GOT THAT!!!!

by Scruffy Lefty on Apr 2, 2007 6:45 AM PDT   0 recs

Okay, Felix
Okay, Felix, you've got a pre-broken A's offense, a home-town crowd, and opening-day fever.

It's on!

I predict...
73 pitch perfect game, M's win 3-0 on solo HR by Guillen, Beltre, and Betancourt.

by patsfan on Apr 2, 2007 7:44 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Since I'm going to be busy....
GO M'S!!!!!!!!

Here's to hopin' the umps are a little nicer to George this year.

Pictures @ 11-ish.  Or so.  I hope.

Iceberg, right ahead!

by PositivePaul on Apr 2, 2007 7:43 AM PDT   0 recs

OH wait
I have the whole Passover thing tonight.

looks like i'll have to miss a few innings.

by PShwa on Apr 2, 2007 7:43 AM PDT   0 recs

Cant you just
read the haggadah according to Felix?

by johnbai on Apr 2, 2007 9:41 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I get off of work at 4
I'll rush home, and watch the first part of the game that I missed on DVR, before catching up.

Here's hoping that none of us are subjected to being forced to watch Felix "establish his fastball" for the first two innings.

no signature necessary

Out the Door I go!
Heh.  Gave my son our old point & shoot and he took this shot, after saying "Make a silly face!"

Like father, like son...

Heading up to Seattle now, with a stop at Tacoma and Puyallup to pick up the brothers.

Have fun!  I know I will...

Iceberg, right ahead!

by PositivePaul on Apr 2, 2007 8:41 AM PDT   0 recs

Whoops.
Iceberg, right ahead!

Yeah, but it's a *positive* silly face! :-)
Seriously, Paul, thanks.  It's great to put a face with the name.

Enjoy the game!

WOOHOO
Six hours until gametime!  While I have class tonight, I may even skip class if the game remains interesting and just explain everything to my instructor on Wednesday.

The bad news for this year is that, due to my night classes (which were not an issue in '05 and '06), I probably won't be available for Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs night games, until June.  I'll definitely be watching and hanging around here on the weekends, holidays and day games.  And if a professor cancels class or has an exam and lets me out early, I'll also be around.

But hell, I'm five classes from earning a Bachelor's in (something laughable) from UW, so cut me some slack.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 9:04 AM PDT   0 recs

So....I just realized I forgot to take work off
this afternoon.

Good sick note excuses?

by I'm NOT Corco on Apr 2, 2007 9:11 AM PDT   0 recs

You have AIDS
and a very painful, chafing rash in a place that will not allow you to elaborate further.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 9:22 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Are you sure
that when i show back up at worth tomorrow in perfect health, ear intact, that will fly? I'm down with it if it will work...but

by I'm NOT Corco on Apr 2, 2007 9:30 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

People can't grow back ears?!
Oh dear, I'm going to fail my biomed finals.

When faking sick...
always mention diarrhea.  It grosses people out and they won't ask any more questions.

If you can't bring yourself to say it... just say, "I have to stay VERY close to my bathroom right now."

by johnbai on Apr 2, 2007 9:42 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Barfing works better
as a manager anytime my employee tells me they've been ralphing i don't want them anywhere near the office... I've seen too many people get the "sympathy vomit syndrome" and I surely don't want an office a vomitting people.

by MfaninAlaska on Apr 2, 2007 10:41 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Seconded
Also the use of the word "explosive" can be key

im missing my lab for the game today
Big day for Beltre today! I really think he's going to have a monster season, probably not 2004, but a damn good one.

I love opening day!

by MFAN on Apr 2, 2007 9:13 AM PDT   0 recs

My last class ends
at around 3:20 PST. I have my Felix tshirt on, and I brought my laptop with me. Operating Systems studying can wait a few hours.

by bluemax on Apr 2, 2007 9:18 AM PDT   0 recs

Jeff, is that a pic of you?
you kinda look like Meche, although that could be because you have an M's jersey with long sleeves underneath it.

Caution: Jeff Sullivan Blogging
Severe Paragraphs Expected

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 10:04 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hey now
Just you wait until Jeff Sullivan puts it all together.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 10:52 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It is statistically expected to happen
once every 3 months or so, but I remain skeptical, the pure writing ability is there, that's clear, but his command of adjunct gerunds is spotty at best and he relies far too heavily on zeugma's to be effective three or four paragraphs into a story.

by Matthew on Apr 2, 2007 10:56 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Jeff Sullivan is a blogging talent
He's just prone to the big typo.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 10:58 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, sometimes
he's not sure what he's writing about, so he'll just hit Post and throw it up there.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 11:43 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

aw c'mon
maybe cirillo?

by Mere Tantalisers on Apr 2, 2007 10:00 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I thought
the exact same thing when I first saw that picture, but I refrained from making a comment and incurring Jeff's wrath.

by MfaninAlaska on Apr 2, 2007 10:42 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

sorry Jeff
didn't mean it as a dis.  Now if I said you pitched liked Meche that would be a different story.  Meche is a good looking guy.

by MFAN on Apr 2, 2007 12:02 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, no kidding
when I first moved to Seattle and started going to Mariners games, I thought Gil Meche was the cutest guy on the pitching staff, and even got a Meche #55 t-shirt... (to be fair, he was like 10-3, 3.something at the time I got it)

Sadly, he seems to have aged like ten years in the last three years.  Poor guy.

there wouldn't have been two men on.

I found it interesting
That the Devil Rays sent Jorge Cantu to the minors to start the year... he's asked to be traded.

by MfaninAlaska on Apr 2, 2007 10:44 AM PDT   0 recs

What's the story with that
I saw he was refusing, by why did they send him down?

Wonder what they'll ask for him...

by bluemax on Apr 2, 2007 10:48 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

from what I've read
they moved him to give BJ Upton a place to play.... he did have a bad year last year battling injuries.. and didn't have a good spring, sounded alot like they didn't have much patience with him.

by MfaninAlaska on Apr 2, 2007 11:10 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The long short of it
He can't play defense and his offense is incredibly one dimensional (all or nothing who never walks). They felt that Upton and Wiggington were the better players at 2B and 1B and Gomes is the superior DH. He had no place to go and they wanted him to go to AAA to try to get his swing back.

Besides, he has a lame mustache.

by Trent on Apr 2, 2007 2:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Jeter with an error!
what?! it can't be! he's a 3 time gold glove winner!

by Matthew on Apr 2, 2007 10:44 AM PDT   0 recs

I'm saying 700
only because it's a day game, otherwise above 1,000

oh yeah
day game for you west coasters

Good news for Snelling
Nook Logan just collided with the CF wall in the Nationals game and Meched up his ankle.

Ryan Church to Center, Snelling now in left.

And if those damn Washington announcers slobber over Miguel Olivo one more time I am going to puke. Someone needs to send Don Sutton video of his time in Seattle.
